Downer Rail (a division of the Downer group of companies) is a leader in rollingstock services, offering design, manufacture and maintenance services to the freight and passenger rail industries throughout the Australasian region.
We are seeking a highly motivated Electrical Locomotive Maintainer to support future growth based at our Kewdale, WA facility.  As a self starter, you will work autonomously and form a key component of our multi -skilled team primarily responsible for the repairs, modifications and maintenance of locomotives.  Your usual hours of work will be 80 hours per fortnight averaged over each successive two-week cycle and may be worked on any day of the week Monday to Sunday inclusive and may include an average of 4 hours per week overtime with penalty rates. Applicant must be willing to FIFO to Port Headland when required.

Key responsibilities :

  • Maintain High levels of fleet "availability and reliability" 
  • Maintaining, repairing, testing and commissioning of locomotives. Completing all documentation
  • Attend to breakdowns as part of a team at locations away from the facility.
  • Carry out locomotive repairs and fault find electrical systems.
  • Carry out facility maintenance with the scope of training and experience.
  • Travel to remote customer sites is a requirement of the role.
  • Commitment to a ZERO HARM workplace and promote an excellent team work attitude.

 Skills Preferred:

  • Formal electrical trade based qualification and relevant license.
  • Strong ability to fault find and utilize trouble shooting skills.
  • Be able to interpret technical documents such as electrical drawings and operation manuals.
  • Certified competency as a forklift operator, overhead crane experience desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to carry out all facets of multi skilled / cross trade functions and undertake training as required.
  • Current Drivers Licence is essential.
  • HR truck licence desirable but not essential.
  • Hands on team player, able to foster and maintain good working relationships, flexibility and resourcefulness.
